Our First Global Team Retreat: Lessons from Bringing a Remote Team Together

For a remote-first company, in-person time is not about work — it is about building the relationships that make remote collaboration possible for the rest of the year.

What We Did

  • 3 days of workshops, hackathons, and team activities
  • No slide decks — all sessions were interactive and hands-on
  • Cross-functional teams working on real customer problems
  • Evening activities focused on fun, not networking
  • Dedicated time for 1:1 conversations with people you only know as Slack avatars

What We Learned

The retreat generated more product ideas, resolved more cross-team misunderstandings, and built more trust than three months of Zoom calls. We are making it an annual tradition.
